For many of us, the beginning of the school year is filled with excitement—new notebooks, fresh pencils, folders waiting to be filled with lessons and ideas. But for too many students, that sense of excitement is dampened by a simple reality: they don’t have the basic supplies they need to learn.

Educator Marcos Namit is determined to change that for his students. He has seen firsthand how something as small as having a notebook, a folder, or even paper to write on can impact a child’s confidence and their ability to participate fully in class. These items might seem small, but in the daily life of a student, they mean everything.

Unfortunately, ongoing budget cuts are making it harder than ever for schools to provide these essentials. Teachers, who already give so much of themselves, are often left to fill the gap—spending out of their own pockets to make sure no child falls behind. While their generosity is remarkable, it’s not sustainable, and it’s not fair for students to face those barriers at the start of the year.

That’s why Marcos has created a DonorsChoose project to raise funds for classroom books and supplies. By contributing, you’re not just buying paper or folders—you’re investing in a student’s ability to feel prepared, supported, and ready to succeed from day one.

With school beginning on September 2, the timing is critical. Every dollar donated helps ensure that when students walk into the classroom, they feel ready to learn instead of worrying about what they don’t have.

Here’s how you can help:

  • Donate: No amount is too small—every single contribution makes a difference.

  • Share: If you’re unable to give, please pass along this link to friends, family, or colleagues who might want to support.

Together, we can make sure these students begin the school year with the tools they need—and give their educator peace of mind knowing his students are supported. Let’s help them step into September with confidence and hope. 💙
