Chancellor Fariña vs the Charter Schools
Chancellor Fariña is feeling the heat for some remarks she made recently about how charter schools inflate their test scores by pushing some low-performing students out right before they give the tests.
Supporters of charter schools are now calling for proof.
United Federation of Teachers President Michael Mulgrew said he, too, would support “a completely transparent audit” of student enrollment data from district and charter schools.
The Daily News, not missing a chance to slam Fariña, published this editorial calling Fariña’s remarks the “height of irresponsibility.”
The city also pointed to charter school special-ed attrition numbers from an IBO report in defense of Fariña’s claims — even though the IBO admitted those numbers were flawed earlier this year.
