Why Take Leadership Courses? Why choose the CITE program in partnership with the College of St. Rose?

As he matured as a teacher, he was inspired by his leaders and colleagues to take on leadership roles that sparked his desire to become a school administrator. After researching several avenues for school building leader certification, the CITE program caught his eye. Firstly, his own assistant principal is an alumnus of CITE, and recommended the program to Joshua. In addition, CITE’s weekend classes were very attractive, as he could continue teaching full-time while also earning credits towards his certificate.

Students and Instructors at the College of St. Rose

Since joining the CITE program, Joshua has been impressed most by the caliber of his classmates and instructors. Among the instructors that he says influence him most is Dr. Marilyn Johnson. Joshua says that her passion for changing educational outcomes for students has outlived her own career as an administrator, and now drives her work in training the school leaders of tomorrow. Joshua adds that his classmates, however, make the hard work of learning how to be a successful administrator an invigorating and fulfilling experience, and he can no longer imagine this experience without them as a major part of it.

Future Plans

After he completes the CITE program, Joshua plans to continue teaching in his current school and learning from his administrators. He adds that, even though his administrator certification may be kept in his back pocket for a few years, the educational and professional experience alone is worth the effort.
